What is calcium carbonate?

Calcium carbonate (CaCO₃), is a natural mineral from the carbonates group. It occurs naturally as limestone or is produced industrially as precipitated calcium carbonate (PCC). Calmit’s calcium carbonates impress with its high purity, precisely defined grain sizes and excellent physical properties. This makes it particularly suitable for demanding applications in many different industries.

What makes calcium carbonate (CaCO₃) indispensable?

Calcium carbonate is an indispensable component of modern industrial processes. In the construction industry, it is used as an aggregate for concrete, as a filler for asphalt and as a raw material for cement production. The paper industry uses calcium carbonate to improve whiteness and opacity. In the plastics industry, it serves as a functional filler that enhances mechanical properties and improves surface appearance – often as a substitute for titanium dioxide. Paints and coatings benefit from its brightness and opacity as well as its rheological properties. In agriculture, calcium carbonate is used for soil improvement and pH regulation.

Thanks to its regional extraction and CO₂-binding properties, Calmit´s calcium carbonate is not only high-performance but also sustainable.
