CALMIT. The Bad Ischl lime plant also produces refined lime (PCC).
At its Bad Ischl site, CALMIT GmbH uses state-of-the-art technology and its many years of experience to produce lump lime, fine lime, hydrated lime and stone powder of the highest quality. To this end, a modern facility comprising several production and storage buildings has been constructed in recent years, where precipitated calcium carbonate (PCC) – also known as “precipitated calcium carbonate” (CaCO3 ) – is produced in addition to the existing product range.
The raw material for PCC is natural limestone, which is mined in the nearby Starnkogel quarry in the highest purity (98 per cent). At Calmit, the natural calcium carbonate is refined into PCC by adding CO₂. This product is used throughout Europe by industry to manufacture pharmaceutical products, food, paint, paper, plastics, adhesives and sealants.

CO2 is bound in the PCC
For Calmit, however, the production plant also has an important positive side effect: the CO₂that is bound in large quantities in the lime during PCC production can be extracted from the lime kiln that produces the precursor. Calmit is thus improving its CO₂balance by 30 per cent.
The PCC production plant is one of only a few in Europe. Calmit is thus not only further expanding its pioneering position in lime production, but also creating additional jobs for the region.
