Our history – The development of the Calmit Group

The history of the Calmit Group is characterised by innovation, growth and deep roots in European industry. The group was formed in 2015 as a joint venture between two long-established, family-run companies: the Austrian Baumit Beteiligungen GmbH, part of Schmid Industrieholding, and the Spanish Calcinor S.A. The aim of founding the holding company was to bundle the existing holdings in the lime and filler sector and to combine the strengths of both companies in a joint group. It was initially founded under the name Eurofillers Holding GmbH before being renamed Calmit Holding GmbH in 2026.

Our roots in Austria

The roots of the Calmit Group go back a long way. The Baumit Group, then known as Wopfinger, began producing lime in the Piesting Valley in Austria in 1911. From these beginnings, the company developed through continuous expansion into one of the largest building materials producers in Europe. The Baumit Group was subsequently integrated into Schmid Industrieholding, which holds further stakes in companies in the fields of building chemicals, insulation materials and other sectors, thus steadily expanding the group's portfolio and innovative strength.

Our roots in Spain

The history of Calcinor S.A. is also characterised by growth and entrepreneurial spirit. The company was founded in Spain in 1952 and began manufacturing lime and gypsum. By establishing numerous plants for the production of lime, precipitated calcium carbonate, dolomite, asphalt and ready-mixed concrete, Calcinor was able to consolidate its market leadership in Spain and North Africa. The ongoing expansion of its business areas and its consistent focus on quality and innovation have made Calcinor a major player in European industry.

Our corporate culture

The founding of the Calmit Group brought together over 180 years of experience and expertise in a single holding company. Today, the Group stands for the highest quality standards, sustainable production and a special responsibility towards the environment and society. The close cooperation between the Austrian and Spanish owners has created a corporate culture characterised by mutual trust, innovative spirit and a clear commitment to sustainable growth.
