Quick lime – high-quality quicklime (CaO) for industry

Quicklime, also known as burnt lime or lump lime, is a basic raw material for numerous industrial applications. It is produced by carefully burning high-quality limestone at temperatures between 900°C and 1200°C. The result is oven-fired, burnt quicklime with a particularly high purity and a high calcium oxide (CaO) content.

The limestone used by Calmit companies is characterised by its exceptional purity and high carbonate content, which forms the basis for the excellent quality of the lump lime. After the burning process, the limestone is crushed and screened so that different grain sizes – from 8 to 40 mm – are available. Its low dust content and good reactivity make quicklime a versatile product.

Areas of application

Quicklime (lump lime) is an indispensable raw material in the iron and steel industry, where it is used for slag control and desulphurisation. Lump lime is also widely used in the chemical, paper and food industries. The low MgO and Fe content (<1%) allows for a wide range of applications and ensures high product purity. In the construction industry, quicklime is used as a raw material for other lime products and contributes to the stability and durability of buildings.
